Above all else, we are Christian. No educational model, classroom structure, textbook, theories, or anything else can replace this central fact. It is our identity and it has been in the DNA of Maranatha Academy since its inception in 1982.
For over 40 years our vision has remained unwavering: to provide a Christ-centered education that raises the next generation of Christian leaders in our communities, country, and world.
There is an ever-growing problem in our world.
This problem starts at the roots of our society: the education of our children. The need for a high-quality, morally upright, Christ-centered education that cultivates independent-thinking, confident, well-communicating adults has never been greater. While there are exceptional individual educators throughout private and public school systems, their hands are often tied by a culture and institution that rarely values original thought, Christian morality, and absolute truths. Private Christian schools stand as a beacon of light and hope in the world of education.
Christian classical education gets straight to the heart of the problem.
For education to be effective, it must go beyond conveying facts. The most effective education cultivates thinking and articulates students who can develop facts into arguments and convey those arguments clearly and persuasively. The ultimate task of education is teaching students how to learn.
K3-12th grade, your child will receive a Christ-centered educational experience at Maranatha–designed to nurture and grow their Christian worldview.
The influence of progressive teaching methods and the oversimplification of textbooks has made it difficult for students to acquire the mental discipline traditional teaching methods once created. The classical method develops independent learning skills on the foundation of language, logic, and tangible facts.
“The sole true end of education is simply this: to teach men how to learn for themselves.” – Dorothy Sayers
“If education is beaten by [vocational] training, civilization dies.” – C.S. Lewis
Classical education develops the skills essential to higher education and throughout life – independent learning, critical thinking, logical reasoning, and a love for learning.
Maranatha Academy is different because we start with different goals. At the core of education is what Classical Schools call The Trivium.
The Trivium is a means of describing the learning stages of children as they mature. Focusing on the best educational method for each student to become knowledgeable, thoughtful, and articulate. As the name implies, there are three stages represented in the Trivium: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric.
Grammar School (K3-6th) has a strong grammar emphasis, learning through language, music, and Latin.
Logic School (7th-9th) has a logic emphasis with courses in informal and formal logic.
Rhetoric School (10th-12th) has a rhetoric emphasis with students learning how to express themselves in written and oral presentations.
